Frank passed away Monday, July 26, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka with family members at his side.

He was born Dec. 15, 1930, at Christ Hospital in Topeka, to Alfred and Anna Holm of White City.

Frank married Janis Schoof Feb. 8, 1959, at the Council Grove Christian Church. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last February.

He served five years with the Council Grove National Guard. After joining the Navy and attending boot camp he received medical training at San Diego, CA, where he served aboard the USS Haven hospital ship at Long Beach, CA. He then was stationed in Yokuska, Japan, where he worked at the U.S. Naval Hospital. Upon his return he spent three years at Camp Pendleton, CA, where he worked in physical therapy. From there he went to Cairo, Egypt, where he worked for three years at the Naval Medical Research Unit.

Returning to Topeka, Frank was assigned to the inspector-instructor staff with the Marine Corps Reserve, went to Guam for two years, and then was assigned to the USS Sanctuary hospital ship which operated in the Vietnam waters. He helped decommission that ship after its return to Vallejo, CA. He completed his Navy career as an instructor at the Navy Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes, IL, retiring as a chief hospital corpsman.

He received a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1978 from Washburn University in Topeka; and was a member of American Legion Post 1 in Topeka, the Fleet Reserve Association, and the American Diabetes Association. He was baptized as a child and was a member of the Council Grove Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janis, of the home; 19 much-loved nieces and nephews and their families; a sister-in-law, Donna Muller and a brother-in-law, Bob Roberts Sr., both of Council Grove; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Holm, Junction City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ethel Wood, Mary Roberts and LaQuita Roberts; a brother, Lester Holm; and a niece and nephew.

He loved hunting and music and played the guitar and dobro. His love for his country and family was great, and he felt blessed to have his nieces and nephews and their families.

Burial will be at Four Mile Cemetary with full military honors.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or the Council Grove Christian Church, and can be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel, 137 N. Union, Council Grove, KS 66846.
