Doris Merle Day, 98, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 05, 2013 at Diversicare of Council Grove.
She was born January 13, 1915 in Allen, Kansas to James and Myrtle (Johnston) Giger. She graduated from Allen High School and attained her RN degree at Vail Nursing School Christ Hospital, which is now known as Stormont Vail. Doris married Leslie “Pete” Day on April 5, 1941 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1984.
Doris was a member of the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church, UMW, Lyon Co. Cowbelles, Jolly Jane’s and the Elm Creek Extension Unit of Morris County. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards, flowers, reading and was a very good cook. Doris loved her grandchildren and tried to attend all of their activities which they were involved in. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Delbert Giger, sisters, Elva McInnes and Winnie Miller.
Doris is survived by her 3 sons; Don and Carole Day, of Council Grove, Dean and Maria Day, of Hesston, and Bruce and Joleen Day, of Council Grove; grandchildren, Kerri and Jeff Keller, of Manhattan, Carmen and Rob Kraus, of Talmage, Kelli and Jamie Hilliard, of Topeka, Lance Day and Jill Brunner, of Council Grove, James Day and Allison Wools, of Topeka, Mindy and Luke Amend, of Whitewater, Lisa and Ben Jarvis, of Council Grove, Sondra and Derek Sparks, of Tonganoxie and Pete and Nikki Day, of Council Grove; 10 great-grandchildren, Nicki, Jake, Avery, Tucker, Ella, Julia, Brayden, Mason, Eli and Dani; and special nieces and nephews.
