Erma C. Rollf of Gardner, Kansas, formerly of Alta Vista, entered into eternity on Monday, August 18, 2014. The daughter of Arthur and Sarah Falter Hoch, she was born March 28, 1917, on the family farm southeast of Alta Vista, Kansas. She attended Pleasant Ridge Grade School and graduated from Alta Vista High School in May of 1934. Following graduation from Emporia Business College, she worked for a senator at the Statehouse in Topeka and later at courthouses in Alma and Council Grove.
On October 4, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harold J. Rollf. For over sixty years they lived and farmed the Hoch family farm southeast of Alta Vista.
Erma enjoyed being a farm wife and helping Harold with the animals and the crops. She was active as a 4-H leader and as a district women’s leader in Farm Bureau. She was a charter member of the Wabaunsee County Historical Society. Erma was talented in music and served many years as organist of her church, Simpson United Methodist Church at Alta Vista. She joined Alta Vista Chapter, OES, where she served as organist and in other offices for many years. She was currently a member of White City Chapter #421, OES. She was an accomplished seamstress and upholsterer. Her other interests included history, reading, traveling, flowers, and birds. Of primary importance were her family, neighbors, and friends.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Rollf; her three brothers: Harry, Clarence, and Harvey Hoch; and her sister, Leola Grundeitz.
She is survived by her son, Wayne H. (Alice) Rollf of Gardner, KS, four grandchildren: David (Cindy) Rollf of Gardner, KS, Deborah Rollf of Lawrence, KS, Erin (Kevin) Grider of Johnston, IA, and Jonathan (Kristina) Rollf of Thornton, CO; and seven great-grandchildren: Nalleli, Jon, Daniel, Zachary, Luke, Aidan, and MaKenna; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given to the Simpson United Methodist Church at Alta Vista.
