Doris Irene Ashburn, 97, of Alta Vista, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Diversicare of Council Grove.
She was born December 28, 1917 in Wabaunsee County, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Sadie (Carlson) Nixon. She married William Edgar Ashburn on April 24, 1937, in Council Grove. They made their home in Alta Vista, where they farmed and raised their two boys. The moved to Council Grove in the late 80’s.
Doris was a member of Emmanuel Methodist Church and the Chalk Ladies Quilt Club. She also volunteered at the Community Thrift Store.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edgar on April 29, 1996 and a sister, Lucille Parrish.
Doris is survived by her two sons: Lauren Ashburn and wife Linda and Leland Ashburn and wife Deloris, all of Alta Vista; grandchildren: Sheila Hill, Connie Waters, Lori McDiffett, Terri LeMay, Sandi Cowdin, Rob Ashburn and Kris Bieling;15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Delna Hawthorne and Marjorie Kendall; and 2 nieces.
Memorial contributions may be made to Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church, which will go towards the Fellowship Hall.
