Charlotte A. Ruhl, Council Grove, died Sunday, April 13, 2015, at Morris County Hospital. She was the daughter of John H. and Ella I. Borsdorf, she was born March 12, 1931 at Hamilton, KS.
Charlotte graduated from Hamilton High School in 1949. She then moved to Wichita where she worked first as an assembly line worker at Boeing Aircraft and then in the kitchen at Wesley Medical Center. She met Gilbert “Gene” Ruhl on a blind date in 1952. They were married later that year on December 21st.
Charlotte and Gene made their first home in Herington, KS, where all three of their children were born. Charlotte was a homemaker, wife, and mother for several years. They moved to rural Delavan, KS, and she began working outside the home. She had a diverse range of occupations including waitress, cook, nurse’s aide, and sales clerk. Finally in the early 1990's, the couple owned and operated the Old Trail Motel in Council Grove.
Retirement allowed Charlotte and Gene to enjoy their love of traveling, gardening and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. They loved spending time at their second home in Canton, OK.
After Gene's death in 2008 her life again faced many changes. She lived in both Council Grove and Canton. One of her favorite activities was going to the casinos and winning at the slot machines. She continued to attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities.
Charlotte lived independently as long as she could, but failing medical issues resulted in the need to move into Diversicare nursing center in Council Grove until her death.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Helen White and Marjorie Grubb, and four brothers; Charles Borsdorf, Fred Borsdorf, Eugene Borsdorf, and Floyd Borsdorf.
She is survived by her children Charla & Bill Tinney, Canton, Oklahoma; David Ruhl & Jo Stevens, Herington, Kansas; and Sharon & Mark Brooks, Council Grove, Kansas. Grandchildren; Mike & Yin Pool, William Tinney, Lynne & Brian Warren, Carla & Tony Arellano, Courtney Kersey, David A. Ruhl, Craig Ruhl & Laura Shelton, Amanda Williams, Mike Riddles, Tansy & Chris Hayward, Jeremy & Terry Brooks, Nichole & Patrick Morris, and 17 great-grandchildren.
