Adella (Dell) Ann Hiegert, age 88, died May 25, 2015 in Denver, Colorado. Adella was born in Paxico, KS on July 3, 1926, to Eleanor (Hund) and Herman Schuetz. After graduating from Paxico High School, she married Kenneth J. Hiegert on January 12, 1948. They resided in Paxico briefly before moving to Jetmore, KS for Kenneth’s job and eventually settled in Council Grove, KS where they built their lifelong farm and cattle business.
Adella was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her spouse of 67 years, Kenneth Hiegert (of the home), a brother, Tom Schuetz (Betty) of Paxico, KS, and five children: Judy Shipman (Bill), Kenneth E. Hiegert (Terry), Peg Taylor, Terri Baker, and Steve Hiegert (Valerie), all of Council Grove. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, she belonged to St. Rose Altar Society and enjoyed volunteering at the Community Thrift Store. She will warmly be remembered for her love of family traditions. She especially enjoyed family vacations, keeping a vacation journal during each trip. Family will fondly remember how no trip with her would be complete without the addition of Chicken In a Biscuit crackers and picnics of fried chicken and potato salad. The food memories extend to her tradition of making family favorite popcorn balls and snack crackers for each holiday. She welcomed neighbors daily for a morning coffee break complete with homemade goodies. She also enjoyed gardening with Kenneth and raising chickens so they could share produce and eggs with family and friends. At home, she enjoyed reading, caring for her grandchildren and family pets.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Altar Society or the Community Thrift Store. They may be sent in care of Penwell-Gabel, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
