Thelma Lorene Rowley Boyce, 90 passed away on May 29, 2015 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. Thelma was born on April 11, 1925 in Alta Vista, Kansas, the daughter of Claus and Etta (Moberg) Peterson. Her Husband, Raymond W. Rowley, son, Terry R. Rowley, parents, and sisters Vera and Margaret Peterson, brothers Virgil and Franklin Peterson, second husband Allen Boyce preceded her in death.
Thelma, her brothers and sisters attended school in a one room school in rural Council Grove, Kansas.
Thelma married Raymond W. Rowley on April 23, 1950. They had three children, Betty (Mark) Hanson, Karen (Bill) Devlin, and Terry Rowley.
Raymond and Thelma were dairy farmers until his untimely death in 1973. Thelma’s passion besides milking cows was gardening, cooking and baking. She loved to treat her family and friends to all the delicious creations she made even having her special dinner roll recipe published in a cookbook. Thelma continued the dairy farm with the help of her son and brother Virgil. Terry (son) passed away in 1975, but she remained at the family farm with her brother until her marriage to Allen Boyce on December 5, 1998 and then she moved to Council Grove, Kansas.
She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Brett Hanson (family), Brandy Anderson (family), Sara Forgy, and Shelby Rowley, 6 great- grandchildren, 3 stepchildren, 5 step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Honoring Thelma’s wishes there will be a graveside service on June 4, 2015. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at Penwell Gabel in Council Grove. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 P.M at Chalk Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas.
