Robert Harry Alexander, 94, lifetime resident of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015, at Diversicare of Council Grove.
He was born September 17, 1920 to O.E. “Bud” and Maude Carr Alexander in Council Grove. Bob married Georgina Bolen on May 27, 1940.
Bob was a lifetime member of Council Grove United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Block and Bridle Club, Council Grove Saddle Club, Old Timer’s Rodeo Association, the Extension Council, serving as Chairman and a charter member of Council Grove FFA.
On October 11, 2014, Bob was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Dodge City, Kansas. He was a champion roper and lifelong cattleman/horseman. He was honored for being a Rodeo Championship Cowboy, along with his brother Wayne, at the Symphony on the Prairie five years ago in the Flint Hills.
Bob loved his family and spending time with them was his favorite pastime. He was very fortunate to live a life that he loved. Bob was a mentor to a lot of people who shared his same passion for the cowboy way of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Vicki Martin, brother Wayne Alexander, sister Mary Alexander and son-in-law Jim Lerner.
Bob is survived by his wife of 75 years, Georgina; his children, Barbara Lerner and Tom Alexander and wife Linda, both of Council Grove and Jeff Alexander and wife Jamie, of Olathe; grandchildren, Janalie Simmons, Jimmy Lerner, Joe Lerner, Jeremy Martin, Tyler Martin, Jessica Lehning, Jill Alexander, Bobby Alexander, Misti Haas, T.J. Alexander, Dusty Alexander, Shawna Slack and Jason Oder. He is also survived by son-in-law, Brad Martin; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother, James Alexander of Goddard.
