Ellen Irene Lentell, 90, of Council Grove passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 at Diversicare of Council Grove.
She was born April 7, 1925 to Ernest L. and Margaret J. (Randle) Lentell, in rural Wilsey, KS. Ellen graduated from Olive Branch Grade School in 1939 and from Wilsey Rural High School in 1943.
Ellen was a member of the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church, Morris County Senior Center, Morris County 4-H Foundation, American Legion Auxiliary, and the American Cancer Society.
She held numerous positions throughout the years, including: Herington Air Force Base, Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, REA, Bert Grauel Chevrolet, Morris County Clerk and Treasurers offices. She retired from Morris County Welfare Department, which later became Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, after 35 years of service.
Ellen spent her childhood summers at her Uncle George Randle’s farm in Diamond Springs, where she played, fished and farmed.
Ellen enjoyed volunteering, flower gardening, embroidering, knitting, yard sales, auctions and casinos. She bought the first car that Bolton Chrysler sold, a 1965 gold Barracuda. Rip (Elmer, her life-long partner) thought it was the ugliest car he’d ever seen. She could frequently be found at Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen or Saddlerock Cafe. She loved her cats, J.B., Tom Cat, Siamie and T.W. She loved her family and was especially fond of her nieces, nephews, and special friend Chuck Kniebel.
She is preceded in death by her parents, partner Elmer “Rip” Bruckner, and sister Margaret Hensley.
Ellen is survived by her brother Lynn Lentell, of Council Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
