Myrtle Lorene White, 96, of Council Grove, KS passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Diversicare in Council Grove. A funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry Buss officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Bushong Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church.
Myrtle Lorene White was born October 17, 1918, in Council Grove, KS the daughter of Luther and Osie (Logan) Nott. She graduated from the Bushong High School with the class of 1936. She was the Valedictorian of her class and cheerleader. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years where she served as Postmaster at Bushong, KS, and later transferred to the Council Grove Post Office. Myrtle married Virgil Weeks January 23, 1937. Virgil passed away February 16, 1969. She married Gerald White May 4, 1974. Gerald passed away May 15, 2000.
She was a seventy five year member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Grand Chaplain of the Grand Chapter of Kansas in 1978-79. She was a Past Matron of Lulu Chapter #135 in Allen, KS and Old Mission Chapter #178 in Council Grove, KS. She was a member of the Lulu Chapter's Past Matrons Club. She was a member of the Council Grove/Dunlap Methodist Church and served on several committees and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Esther Circle of the United Methodist Women. She was a member and past president of the Talahi Federated Club. She was an avid KU Basketball Fan, loved to dance and loved her cat Cindy.
Survivors include her two first cousins, Vivian Cadwallader of Shoreline, WA and Evelyn Uceny of Yakima, WA.
