Beulah Mae Craig, 88, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Diversicare of Council Grove.
She was born September 22, 1926 in Council Grove, to Frank and Dorothy (Taylor) Bolte. In 1934, Frank was killed in a farming accident and Dorothy remarried Dodge Lane.
Beulah married Frederick Lewis Craig on August 17, 1944 in Council Grove. She attended Emporia Teachers College, graduating in 1945. She taught at Richey & Field Country Schools in 1944 and 1945. She worked with her husband for 10 years in the Rendezvous Restaurant, before they owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store for 21 years, retiring in 1986
.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Charter member of Queen’s Bee EHU, past Farm Bureau Board Director, Bridge Club, Knitting Club, and she also served on the Election Board.
Beulah enjoyed reading, knitting, playing Bridge and working the church bazars. She loved visiting and being with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, her husband Fred, sister Ruby McCaleb, nephew Doug McCaleb and brother-in-law Pete Conwell.
Beulah is survived by her daughter Emmajean Volland and husband Jim, of Council Grove; sisters, Joan Worley and husband Ross, of Council Grove and Mary Conwell, of Houston, TX; nieces, Amy Winter and husband Jim, of Flush, KS, Kim Lowe and husband Dan, of Richmond, TX, Jo Ellen Eby and husband Doug, of Sugar Land, TX; nephews, Mike Worley and wife Charlotte, of Olathe, KS, David Worley and wife Connie, of El Dorado, KS, Steve McCaleb and wife Sharon, of Topeka, KS, and Rick McCaleb, of Emporia, KS; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and 18 great-great nieces and nephews.
Family will greet friends from 9:00 to 10:00, prior to the service at 10:00 at the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 20th. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
