Melva Grace Auchard passed away on August 29, 2015 at the Diversicare of Council Grove at the age of 96.
She was born November 20, 1918, to Wilhelm (Will) Eikenhorst and Mary Barr Eikenhorst. She married Fredrick Vance Auchard on February 28, 1937. In 1947 they moved to Council Grove and made it their life long home.
Grace was a member of the Council Grove United Methodist Church. She was known for her beautiful flowers, crocheted afghans and braided rugs. She was active in the community by volunteering on numerous committees and working for various businesses.
Vance preceded her in death on July 8, 1988. Also preceding her in death were her parents, an infant daughter, Janet Sue Auchard, four brothers, Earl, Kenneth, Everett and Roy Eikenhorst and one sister, Helen Roepke.
She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Larry (Kathy) Auchard, Fred (Gloria) Auchard of Council Grove and Gary (Luella) Auchard of Perry, Georgia, 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, 8 great, great grandchildren and 9 step great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grace was creamated as per her request, and there will be no funeral service. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Diversicare of Council Grove in care of Penwell-Gabel, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
