Mary Jane Cavalieri, 99, of Council Grove, KS, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Morris County Hospital.

She was born August 14, 1914 in Portugal, to John and Mary (Vasconcillos) Vierra. She married Basil Angelo Cavalieri.

Mary emigrated from Portugal when she was seven years old and lived most of her life in California.
She lived with a determined work ethic and was reliant on self and family. She worked in California’s canning and food preparation industry for years before she retired a happy and productive person. After suffering from a debilitating stroke in January 2012, Mary moved to Council Grove, to live with her grandson and family. She was able to enjoy the remainder of her life, which was lost suddenly, due to the Influenza A virus. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Edward Cavalieri, and brothers, John and Raymond Vierra.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Kells and husband Bob, of CA; sister, Evelyn Macris and husband George, of Turlock CA; grandsons, Ed Cavalieri and wife Lisa, of Auburn, WA, Dan Caavalieri and wife Cindy, of Council Grove, KS and John Kells, of CA; granddaughter, Toni Kells, of Los Angeles, CA; 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandsons; sisters-in-law, Francis Vierra, of Santa Clara, CA and Hamako Vierra, of Turlock, CA.
