Lauren W. Ramsey, 99, passed away Tuesday, October 14 in Overland Park, Kansas. He was born October 12, 1915 in Dwight, Kansas to Harry and May Vera (Taylor) Ramsey.

Growing up in the Morris County area he graduated from Parkerville High School. He attended Kansas State University prior to joining the U.S. Army in February, 1943. Serving as a 1st Lieutenant with the 82nd Airborne Division, during World War II, he spent the majority of his service in Europe where he made combat jumps in Holland, Italy, Sicily, as well as Africa. He received multiple commendations including the Bronze Star. He completed his tour of duty serving as a jump instructor at Fort Benning, Georgia prior to his discharge in December of 1945.

On May 14, 1945 he married Edwinna Stubblefield in Little Rock, Arkansas. They spent their early married life in White City, KS prior to moving to Council Grove in 1962.Due to failing health, they moved to Overland Park, KS in August 2010, to be near family. Lauren was an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance, before opening his own independent insurance agency; twice he received the Outstanding Agent of the Year Award.

Active in many local organizations, Lauren served as past president of the Council Grove Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and Council Grove Country Club. He was also a member of the Greater Morris County Economic Development Corporation, VFW and American Legion, as well as serving on multiple committees of the Council Grove United Methodist Church.

An avid golfer, Lauren shot three holes-in-one and also enjoyed riding and raising Tennessee Walker horses.

He is survived by his five daughters: Lynda (Bradley) Admire, Emporia, KS; Lorna McNeal, Merriam, KS; Lana Bennett, Overland Park, KS; Lissa Ramsey-Large, Kansas City, MO; and Lora (Bill) Durkes, Lake Winnebago, MO. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Taylor Ramsey.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Council Grove United Methodist Church.
