Dale Warren Shepard, 82 passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Manhattan Mercy Hospital.
Dale was born on September 16, 1932 in Chapman, Kansas to Samuel Oliver Shepard and Margaret Mae (Skinner) Shepard. Dale married Joy Elaine Long in Chapman, Kansas on March 14, 1953 she preceded him in death February, 1994. Dale then remarried on August 25th 1998 to Norma J Zimmerman and she preceded him in death in July of 2012. Also proceeding in death are sons Bradley Shepard and Michael Shepard.
Surviving are sister Sammie L. Cox (husband Bill of Tulsa Ok) two children, June Hoffman, of Chapman, KS, and Steve Shepard (and wife Zina Shepard) of Council Grove, Ks, Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Dale was raised on the family farm east of Chapman Kansas, his father died early in his life and his Mother passed away when he was seventeen. It was then when he started his farming carrier while attending Chapman High School, graduating in 1950. Dale farmed his place and rented several other properties in the Chapman area. Then in 1963 Dale moved his family and farming operation to Dwight, Kansas. After farming for sometime in Dwight he decided to change professions and bought the Webster Apartment complex in Junction City and Fairmont trailer park in Manhattan, Kansas. Then the itch came back after several years, Dale purchased a farm in Wabaunsee County and he stayed with his first love of farming. Later in life, Dale worked at Fort Riley, Kansas doing seasonal mowing at the age of 75. Dale also served in the Army and was stationed in Korea during the war. He was a licensed Realtor for a period time and sold farm real estate.
Dale enjoyed taking family vacations and traveling by camper to nearly every state. He took an active roll in his grandchildren and great grand-children's lives. Dale was member in the American Legion and the Eagles Club. He was an active fifty year member of Marion Hill Lutheran Church, of Dwight. Kansas
