Shirley A. Blanton, 83, died in Council Grove, KS on Thursday February 12, 2015. She was born April 20, 1931 in Hiawatha, KS to H.A. and Pearl Horn. She was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1949 and began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone soon after. She married Dale Max Blanton on November 23, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Her life has been devoted to her family and church. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 37 years of service. Her real love for family and friends became her full time passion with much time spent with them. She was a member of Westside Christian Church-Topeka, Telephone Pioneers, Active Prime Timers, Capital Area Democratic Women, Eastern Star Helena 210, Communications Workers of America-retired, Huntington’s disease Society of America and Group of Friends. She was also active with Community Christian Church in Council Grove.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Debbie (John) Folk and Dawn (Larry) Frese of Alta Vista and 1 son, Dale (Jean) Blanton of Topeka, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandsons and 5 step-great-grandsons. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Margie Watkins of Riverview, FL, Darlene Bachman of Topeka and Audrey Moore of AZ and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, great-grandson (Matthew Folk), and brothers, Jim Horn and Homer Horn.
She will be greatly missed by her family and they invite you to join in a celebration of her life with a visitation on Sunday from 4-6 at Penwell-Gabel. Services will be at Community Christian Church in Council Grove on Monday, Feb 16 at 1000; followed by graveside service at 1pm at Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka. Fellowship gathering will be at approximately 2pm at Westside Christian Church in Topeka.
